Autoimmune disease cases are rising, as are the costs of diagnosis and treatment. The costs on individuals, employers and public health programs are growing. Praespero is carving a different path forward.

GET INVOLVED
Why donate to a charity like Praespero?
“Just one award takes your good science and makes it great. Or it takes your great science and makes it outstanding. It’s the spark that can get your science off the ground.”
- Dean Tantin, Professor in the Department of Pathology at University of Utah School of Medicine
(Praespero Scientific Advisory Board Member)

This is a high stakes moment for public health.

Meanwhile, governments are cutting funding.

Traditional medical research funding models are in transition.

Conventional thinking will no longer cut it.

Fund scientific freedom. Fund collaboration. Fund an end to autoimmune disease.
All Praespero’s operational expenses are covered.
That means 100% of your donation goes directly to autoimmune disease research.

BE IN IT FOR THE LONG GAME
Leave a lasting legacy in autoimmune disease research.
Designating a bequest to a charity advancing innovative medical research after one’s passing can be a powerful way of creating a lasting story of impact. Legacy gifts provide secure funds that allow us to develop our long-term autoimmune disease research programs with confidence.
Legacy gifts to consider include:
Leaving Praespero in your will: If you have already written a will, it is a simple process to revise it to include a legacy bequest to Praespero. You can also use a codicil (a legal document) that supplements your will with minor adjustments, allowing you to update your wishes in your existing will without having to rewrite the entire document.
Charitable remainder trust (CRT): A charitable remainder trust is a way to make a charitable gift while receiving income from the assets during your lifetime, with the remaining assets going to Praespero upon the passing of the donor.
The donor is usually entitled to a donation receipt when the trust is created. The receipt allows you to claim a donation tax deduction in the year of the donation and can help reduce your tax liability.
Retirement assets: You can donate retirement assets such as RRSPs, RRIFs (in Canada), or IRA, 401(k), or other retirement accounts (in the US) .
Be aware that retirement assets can incur significant taxes when withdrawn, depending on your investment portfolio. If you have sufficient alternative funds for your retirement years, you might consider naming Praespero as the direct beneficiary of your Praespero assets (except in Quebec, where the beneficiary must be an individual). This approach can help you avoid probate and fully benefit from tax advantages.
Charitable Gift Annuity: Purchased through a life insurance company, a charitable gift annuity (or “Gift Plus Annuity) is a great way for individuals aged 70 years and older to make a donation to Praespero while providing them with a guaranteed fixed income for the rest of his/her life. A donation receipt can be issued for the gift portion retained by the charity after the purchase cost of the annuity. This can be used as a tax write-off for donations in the short term, while saving on estate probate fees later.
